2008년 뮤지컬 <카렌과 빨간 구두>로 데뷔한 서예화는 다수의 연극과 뮤지컬 무대를 거치며 연기의 기본기를 다졌다. 2014년 드라마 <꽃할배 수사대>를 시작으로 활동 영역을 매체로 넓힌 이후, <무법 변호사>(2018), <인간수업>(2020), <편의점 샛별이>(2020), <빈센조>(2021) 등에서 개성 강한 인물들을 현실감 있게 구현하며 대중에게 자신의 얼굴을 각인시켰다.

<꽃 피면 달 생각하고>(2021)의 의녀 ‘천금’으로는 생동감 넘치는 에너지와 유쾌한 호흡을 보여줬고, <남남>(2023)에서는 유쾌함과 진지함을 넘나드는 섬세한 생활 연기로 작품에 활력을 보탰다. 이어 <그랜드 샤이닝 호텔>(2024)의 욕망에 사로잡힌 작가 지망생 ‘안지혜’와 <종말의 바보>(2024)의 책임감 강한 취사반장 ‘소주연’을 통해 날 선 욕망부터 따뜻한 인간미까지 상반된 얼굴을 설득력 있게 그려냈다.

2025년에는 활동의 폭을 한층 넓혔다. 드라마 <모텔 캘리포니아>에서 당당하고 주체적인 앱 엔지니어 ‘박 에스더’로 세련되고 경쾌한 매력을 선보였으며, 영화 <귤레귤레>에서는 첫 스크린 주연을 맡아 오래된 관계 속 애정과 환멸이 교차하는 인물의 복합적인 감정을 현실적으로 풀어냈다. 같은 해 연극 <사의 찬미>에서는 비운의 소프라노 ‘윤심덕’으로 무대에 올라 섬세한 감정 연기와 노래를 선보이며 무대 배우로서의 내공을 다시 한번 입증했다.

무대와 스크린, 안방극장을 자유롭게 오가면서도 서예화의 연기는 언제나 인물과 작품을 향해 있다. 익숙한 캐릭터에도 자신만의 리듬과 온도를 더하며, 작품에 꼭 필요한 얼굴로 존재하는 서예화. 그가 앞으로 마주할 새로운 인물과 장면이 더욱 기대가 된다.

Seo Ye Hwa is an actor who places the character before herself. Rather than seeking to stand out, she considers how each role can live fully within the story, responding instinctively to her fellow actors and working with them to complete each scene.

Since making her debut in the musical in 2008, Seo has honed her craft through numerous plays and musicals. After expanding her career to the screen with the drama in 2014, she brought distinctive characters to life with grounded realism in (2018), (2020), (2020), and (2021), steadily establishing a memorable presence with audiences.

As the female physician ‘Cheon Geum’ in (2021), she brought vibrant energy and lively chemistry to the screen. In (2023), her finely tuned, naturalistic performance moved seamlessly between humor and sincerity, adding vitality to the series. She then portrayed two sharply contrasting characters: ‘Ahn Ji Hye’, an aspiring writer consumed by ambition in (2024), and ‘So Joo Yeon’, a responsible kitchen manager in (2024). In 2025, Seo further broadened the scope of her work. In , she showcased a polished and spirited charm as ‘Esther Park’, a confident and self-possessed app engineer. She then took on her first leading role on the big screen in , realistically portraying the complex emotions of a woman caught between affection and disillusionment within a long-standing relationship. That same year, she returned to the stage as ‘Yun Sim Deok’, the tragic soprano at the center of , once again demonstrating the depth of her theatrical experience through nuanced emotional acting and song.
